This year I have been given the job of leading this traditional meet. As a number of our regular attendees are unavailable and I now have difficulty going for more than 18k I have tried to a) keep it local b) Ensure good accommodation for Sat night in case the weather is inclement on Friday night and c) not too far on Saturday. I hope all the above should make for a great weekend.
Starting point for Friday is The Royal Oak in Wetton. Free Car Parking in village for 25 cars. If anyone wants a meal I would suggest booking as they may well be busy. We will leave as usual at around 23.00 and walk up onto Wetton Hill. There is plenty of room to bivvy here. We have permission from the National Trust as a special one off for this walk.
Saturday will start with a path over Ecton Hill down to Ecton and along the Manifold Trail to Hulme End. A bit of road walking then takes us from Hayesgate to Townend and the River Dove which we follow to Bridge End and Harris Close, then descending to Pilsbury. A short trek across fields brings us to Vincent House and across to the High Peak Trail which we follow to our night’s accommodation at The Royal Oak in Hurdlow. 18k
The bunkhouse has been booked for 6 beds, so please let me know if you are coming, the earlier the better so I can book more in time. The kitchen only has seating for 6, there are showers and cooking facilities but not much room. The cost is £15 per person for the night. They have no communal room. I have also booked 6 places for a meal in the pub for Sat evening at 19.00. You will need your sleeping bag but sheet and pillow are provided. The pub will get busy as it’s near Christmas.
Returning back to Wetton has three alternatives.
- Bring a bike and leave at Hurdlow on Friday, use this to ride the 20k back along the High Peak and Tissington trails.
- Walk the High Peak and Tissington trail back.
- Car share back arranged on the Friday.
