OREAD MOUNTAINEERING CLUB HUTS
For over 60 years the Oread Club has been very active, climbing and mountaineering in the Peak District and North Wales. We have mountaineering huts in Derbyshire and in Snowdonia, which our members and guests visit regularly on official and unofficial meets. They are also regularly hired by other clubs for mountaineering, climbing, walking and other outdoor activities.
Heathy Lea - Our Peak District Hut
As indicated above, walking and climbing in the Peak District has always been at the heart of Oread Club activities. Our mountaineering hut in Derbyshire – Heathy Lea - is our base for these activities, but it is also available for hire by other BMC affiliated Clubs.

Heathy Lea is on the Chatsworth Estate just outside Baslow, making it well placed for rock climbing on the Derbyshire gritstone edges of Birchens, Gardoms, Froggatt, Stanage and Millstone etc. Chatsworth Edge is in the back garden! It is also of course well placed for walking in the Peak District. The Robin Hood pub and the pubs, cafés and restaurants of Baslow are all within easy walking distance.
Heathy Lea consists of a cottage and a barn. You could hire just the Cottage, or the Cottage and Barn together. The Cottage sleeps up to 12 and the Barn a further 8 people.
The Cottage has electric storage heating and two bedrooms fitted with matratzenlager - each sleeping 5 to 6 people. In the kitchen, there is an electric cooker with hob, 2 ovens and grill, a toaster, electric kettle and microwave plus all the necessary cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery. In the lounge there is a wood burning stove, fan heater, small climbing book library, and moneybox for day fees. There is a small washroom (2 wash basins) with hot water. The porch contains a fridge and provides for wet gear. The toilet adjacent to the porch is in a separate building, the light switch is in the porch, and the toilet key is hanging up.

The barn is intended as an overflow to the cottage, and therefore only offers basic facilities. It has a single sleeping loft area for eight people, approached via a ladder.
There is adequate parking space right next to the hut and an area outside the Barn, suitable for bonfires and barbecues.
