Summer in North Wales: the very phrase brings back memories of hot & sticky days in 'The Pass' or Tremadog, baking at Gogarth, or best of all - pleasant afternoons hiding from the heat on Cyrn Las, Cloggy, Craig Yr Ysfa, Llech Ddu, or Lliwedd.
The weather will be brilliant (straight face here) and on Saturday night we will be having a BBQ along the same lines as last year. You should bring your own food & drink. I will provide some BBQ machines & a little aperitif.
Just another gentle reminder for those with Summer holidays still to plan then why not join this year's Alpine meet to the Pennine Alps. So far we have over 30 Oreads booked on the meet and many more expressing an interest.
Robin Beadle who uses camping Schönblick as his base has kindly booked the site for us and we should have our own field to take over.
Mountaineering objectives are many and range from the surrounding 4000m peaks to bolted rock. The Lagginhorn and the Täschhorn are high on the long list I have.
As usual there will also be some members arriving earlier and leaving later depending on when people can get holidays.

Friday 11th June saw a motley crew of Oreads leaving the car park to walk up to Cwm Eigiau hut. However, the weather had other ideas! It started to rain, just drizzle to get us going but full blown rain before we arrived. All soaked and cold, the only thing to do was drink! Saturday was cool and dry, but cloudy, Derek and Freda did Pinnacle Wall, with great antics for the audience on Ampitheatre Buttress, something about a rope getting stuck I think. Saturday night we consumed large quantities of wine with our specially prepared spag. bol, à la Tony. Sunday was beautiful, warm, sunny and clear. So nice in fact that everyone simply botanised in the quarry, all that is except Freda who shot off round the cwm edge by Craig yr Isfa.
A great weekend. Thanks to all who came, Derek and Joan Pike, Barbara and Tony Smedley, Freda Raphael, Vince & Allison Smedley. I hope to see you all in another four years. John Green
I have been upbraided for not publishing a notice of the Duke's death. Sorry. Andrew Cavendish succeeded to the dukedom in 1950 (shortly after the founding of the Oread!) As well as being a good landlord to the club he was also a very good friend. He generously agreed to be patron of the Derbyshire Himalayan Expedition in 1961 and clearly derived pleasure from Harry Pretty's invitation to write the Foreword to the Jubilee Journal in 1999. The Duke was once asked whether he belonged to the London club, Pratt's. He replied, "Actually Pratt's belongs to me." Did he ever say the same of the Oread? I hope not! The secretary of the Oread wrote a letter of condolence to the Duchess from whom he has received a courteous reply. RT
THE HUT WILL BE CLOSED FROM THE 26th JULY FOR 3/4 WEEKS SO THAT VARIOUS ELECTRICAL AND FIRE SAFETY WORK CAN BE CARRIED OUT.
